The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday searched the places of work of Viva Group run by the household of Vasai MLA and chief of Bahujan Vikas Aghadi, Hitendra Thakur, and two consultants to the group in reference to its probe into the alleged Rs 6,200 crore fraud perpetrated by Housing Improvement Infrastructure Restricted (HDIL) at Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative (PMC) Financial institution.
Hours after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids at a number of areas, the company has arrested Viva Group MD Mehul Thakur and Director Madan Gopal Chaturvedi in reference to PMC and HDIL Rip-off.
The ED had carried out searches on the 5 areas belonging to Viva Group and its associates in Virar, Andheri, Juhu and Chembur areas. Rs 73 lakh in money and digital and documentary proof have been recovered in the course of the searches.
Based on ED investigation, PMC-scam accused Wadhawans of Housing Improvement Infrastructure Ltd (HDIL) in connivance with Viva Group diverted greater than Rs 160 crore from HDIL to many entities belonging to Viva Group within the garb of fee.
The investigative company has filed a felony case of cash laundering in opposition to HDIL, its promoters Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan, Sarang Wadhawan, former chairman Waryam Singh and ex-managing director Pleasure Thomas within the PMC Financial institution fraud case.
ED took cognizance of a Mumbai Police financial offences wing FIR in opposition to them that charged them with inflicting “wrongful loss, prima facie to the tune of Rs 4,355 crore to PMC Financial institution and corresponding beneficial properties to themselves”.
