Farmers’ Protest LIVE Updates: The farmers’ protest in India, which has swelled up to become a mass protest now, erupting in the heartland of the country, New Delhi, has now clocked 20 days, with no breakthrough in sight.
The protesters who have been camping at Delhi borders have announced the intensification of their agitation even after five rounds of talks with the Centre. The farmers’ demand is the absolute retraction of all the three farm laws, while government offered to make amendments in the laws and a written assurance on MSP issue. Failing to convince the farmers in the earlier meets, Centre now huddles to hold another level of talks, as the protesters have now stepped up their agitations, blocking highways connecting to the national capital and also blocking its entry points.
The farmers’ protest which was started with an aim to keep it peaceful, has been marked by initial tussle with the cops, sit-in protests at Delhi-borders, traffic disruption, Bharat Bandh, hunger strike and blocking of roads.
The peaceful protest that involves thousands of farmers mainly from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh is being centrally monitored by a group of farmers’ representatives belonging to over 40 farmer unions of different states and towns who have been camping at Singhu since November 26.
